Porsche has set a price tag of 265,000 euros plus country-specific VAT, which works out to be roughly $435,000 AUD.

The Porsche 911 GT4 R will replace the Porsche Cayman 718 GT4, of which more than 1500 units have been sold worldwide..

Porsche said the 911 GT4 R is a marked step up on its predecessor, with a more powerful engine, wider track widths and further-developed motorsport electronics.

The car is powered by a 4.0-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine making 382 kW.

Category-mandated Balance of Performance measures mean it is delivered with a restrictor limiting it to 316 kW.

“With the new racing car based on the Porsche 911 GT3, we are taking our successful GT4 programme to a new level,” said Porsche Motorsport vice president Thomas Laudenbach.

“The combination of iconic 911 DNA and the tried-and-tested GT4 concept creates a unique offering in the market.

“Our decision to bring the 911 platform into the GT4 category underlines the growing importance of this class in international motorsport.

“GT4 has evolved from an entry-level segment into a highly competitive, globally relevant racing platform.”

Porsche Motorsport sale director Michael Dreiser added: “Our customers benefit from a significantly wider range of options in the GT4 segment.

“The new 911 GT4 R complements the existing Cayman range and offers ambitious teams another high-performance option.

“We are seeing strong global demand for high-performance yet accessible customer racing cars.”

The 911 GT4 R takes some visual cues from the 911 Cup used in Carrera Cup, albeit with a much smaller adjustable rear wing.

The car will be eligible for Monochrome GT4 Australia.
